The award honors contributions to small business success in the Great Lakes Region.
WomenVenture has been awarded the 2019 Women’s Business Center of Excellence Award for both Minnesota and the greater Great Lakes Region by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The Great Lakes Region covers Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin.
In the words of the SBA: “WomenVenture’s Women’s Business Center was chosen as the state and regional winner for its excellence and innovation in training and counseling culturally and economically diverse women entrepreneurs and serving as a community champion for women-owned small businesses.”

WomenVenture has been dedicated to its mission of helping women build profitable and sustainable businesses since 1978. It has provided more than 104,000 women with tools and resources to achieve economic success. In FY 2017/18, WomenVenture served 1,066 women; helped start, expand or strengthen 206 small businesses in the Twin Cities through its business training classes, small business loans and business consulting services. Those businesses supported 916 jobs, paying an average wage of $20 per hour.
