Amy DePoint, owner and practitioner of Amy DePoint Wellness has always had a passion for helping others. Her mission for herself and her business is to challenge and guide others to live the life they desire through practical lifestyle and nutrition choices and having a healthy mindset.
Amy DePoint is a licensed acupuncturist who specializes in women’s health as well as mental and emotional health. She uses her education and experience in the practices of acupuncture and Mayan Abdominal Therapy to support her clients.
“My experience and various healing modalities as well as my skill as an energy worker and medical intuitive set me apart…. I feel I was born to do what I am currently doing.”
From a young age Amy was exposed to acupuncture. As a young adult, she experienced seasonal allergies with flu like symptoms and heavy congestion. She went to the acupuncture student clinic, and she felt immediate relief from her symptoms, she thought, “This is amazing, I feel alive.” She went to an information session about acupuncture and fell in love with the practice.
Amy received a master’s degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from Northwestern Health Sciences University. In 2006, she was a part of a project with WomenVenture and the Neighborhood Development Center where she gained a small amount of capital to open her first business, Heal Oriental Medicine.
In 2012, Amy and her partner had their first child and made the decision to move to California. She took a step back from her business to focus on being a mother. She treated her time in California as a sabbatical, hired a contractor to run Heal Oriental Medicine, and was able to dive deeper into new practices, broadening her skill sets and offerings.
In 2017, after having a second child, the family of four moved back to Minnesota and Amy opened Amy DePoint Wellness. She chose this name because it does not restrict her to one practice; she can evolve, continue to grow and shift her offerings. “There is nothing more expansive than just being you.”
At the beginning of 2023, Amy was reminded of WomenVenture by a neighbor and began to utilize the resources again. Since then, she has taken two WomenVenture courses and said, “I found just being with like-minded people has been incredibly helpful. WomenVenture pushes you for sure. But as someone that can get paralyzed with overwhelm and fear, this was so incredibly important.”
Today Amy has her practice, transformative adventure retreats, and online courses. The first of her online courses is about what to do when you are sick and remedies that are right in your kitchen. She has a second course launching soon for couples to be able to give birth at home in the right way.
This summer Amy will be leading two separate, week-long retreats for women in one of Minnesota’s most beautiful nature preserves, the Boundary Waters. Amy is looking for women who are “ready for a transformative trip of a lifetime in a truly wild place” to join her. The August retreat is full, but if you would like to join Amy, there are still spots available for the trip from June 16th to the 22nd.
“There is something exceptional that happens when women come together in community in an intentional way. This trip was specifically designed to push the body in very physically challenging ways. In this sweet spot, the noise and the woulds, shoulds and coulds fall away. We just show up in that moment and then the next. We are no longer who we thought we should be or who our bosses or spouses think we should be. We just are.”
The Boundary Waters always brought Amy incredible peace and grounding, and she wanted to share that with others. She envisioned starting these retreats as a way to combat the spike in depression and anxiety and the heavy usage of medication she was seeing post-pandemic. As she continues the retreats, she hopes to evolve and expand how they are run and who she offers them to, eventually venturing to Mexico or Puru.
For those just starting out their entrepreneurial journey, Amy leaves you with this, “That drive to get it looking perfect can be helpful, but it can also hold back the best and most brilliant things you have to offer if you can’t launch it. Launch dirty. The song in your heart is for you.”
